      <image:title>After-School Projects</image:title>
<image:caption>Thanks to our dedicated teachers and administrators, Dry Creek is supporting after-school projects for our ninth consecutive year. Research shows that children in after-school programs excel academically, have higher graduation rates, and display greater expectations for the future. Parents with children in after-school programs are less stressed, have fewer unscheduled absences, and are more productive at work. Dry Creek Charity supports After-School Projects serving elementary and middle school Title 1 students in the Salt Lake Valley. We aim to keep students safe and engaged by providing opportunities into the evening hours. We empower educators to create projects that meet the unique needs of their students and community. In addition, we strive to provide a nurturing and supportive environment where students learn, grow, and create lasting relationships with their fellow peers and teachers.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Vietnam - Hué Partnership</image:title>
<image:caption>When Dry Creek founder Dr. Thomas Rosenberg was invited to Hué in 2005 to introduce surgical procedures, he saw an opportunity to give back to a country that the US had completely devastated during the Vietnam War. He asked surgical chief Pham Dang Nhat to put him in contact with a local humanitarian leader. Upon arrival, he met Nguyen Van Thinh, a retired math professor and fervent humanitarian who became the leader of Dry Creek’s projects in Vietnam. "Mr. Thinh" has inspired us ever since and continues to lead our work in Vietnam.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Dry Creek has committed to support the advancement of youth chess and soccer in the Hué region from 2019-2023. Due to the development of digital technology, most of today’s Vietnamese youth are drawn into video games and disregard mental and physical exercise. To combat this, Mr. Thinh chose soccer and chess, sports with a long tradition that foster community spirit, help juveniles exercise both physically and mentally, and create many opportunities for them to make friends with others in the world through tournaments.</image:caption>

<image:caption>In October and November 2020, Central Vietnam was struck by a series of tropical storms that exacerbated the seasonal monsoons, causing major flooding and landslides. As of November 17th 2020, 324 lives have been lost and 66 are reported missing. So far, the Hué Region has suffered over $90 million in damages. <image:title>Food Relief</image:title>
<image:caption>With the help of over 200 volunteers and community supporters, we packed 1200 boxes of shelf-stable, healthy foods designed to feed a family of 4 for 2 weeks. Foods included rice, pinto beans, rolled oats, green lentils, all-purpose flour, dried tomatoes, dried onions, and spices. Beneficiaries were identified by Catholic Community Services. Roughly 900 boxes were distributed through their Joyce Hansen Food Pantry in Ogden, UT, where clients are able to collect food only once per month. Many of their clients are undocumented workers who didn’t receive unemployment benefits or the federal stimulus, and who may be wary of reaching out to service providers for help.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Rohingya Partnership</image:title>
<image:caption>In 2005, Umar Faruq finished high school in his Rohingya village in Myanmar and left in pursuit of higher education. Because the Rohingya are not recognized by Myanmar’s Buddhist government, he had to leave his home. He walked 70 days to the capital city, Yangon, and traveled on to Malaysia as a refugee, eventually seeking asylum in the United States in 2013. Dry Creek connected with Umar via the Asian Association of Utah and has supported the construction of a high school in his home village and a middle school in a nearby village.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Satkya school has 800 students K-10th grade. Since 2012, the community has provided 23 volunteer teachers. In 2020, 16/34 students passed the matriculation exam (47%) compared to 4/160 (3%) at the nearby government school. Because of the country’s harsh restrictions on the Rohingya, none of the 16 students will be able to continue on to college.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Mt. Olympus Refugee Garden - Bhutanese Story</image:title>
<image:caption>The Mount Olympus Garden provides plots for local Bhutanese refugees to grow and harvest their own food in partnership with the New Roots of Utah program through the IRC. Over the years, the garden has become an integral part of these refugees’ lives, not only providing them with a means of food production, but also serving as a gathering place for cultural celebrations and community meals. In 2020, we had over 40 families using the garden.</image:caption>

As of 2020, Paul has stepped back from his garden responsibilities to enjoy retirement. We are deeply grateful for Paul’s dedication and altruistic spirit over the years. <image:title>About - The Hummingbird</image:title>
<image:caption>We at Dry Creek strive to emulate our logo, the hummingbird, in three ways: Small size, big capacity. The wings of hummingbirds beat up to 80 times per second and they can tirelessly travel great distances. Every winter, the ruby-throated hummingbird travels 2500 miles from Alaska to Central America in one trip. This feat of incredible strength reminds us at Dry Creek that, even with our small team, we can accomplish great things. Since 2017, Dry Creek has supported school construction and teacher support for a remote Rohingya community in the Arkan State of Myanmar. Myanmar's government has banned international nongovernmental aid to the state and prohibited the Rohingya from traveling outside of a 2 mile radius. Despite this, Dry Creek has worked through our Utah-based collaborator Umar Faruq (who left his village on foot in 2005) to substantively support this community. Adaptability. Because of their unique ability to fly backwards, sideways, and hover up and down, hummingbirds remind us to stay adaptable and to accept the reality of change with an open heart. Untethered to one singular mission, Dry Creek is able to flexibly allocate resources to causes that need immediate attention. This summer, as the COVID pandemic caused food insecurity for countless people, we were able to respond quickly by organizing food relief for 1,200 families. In November 2020, as flood ravaged much of Vietnam, we nimbly organized disaster relief for the hardest-hit areas. Heals those most in need In Hopi and Zuni mythology, hummingbirds intervene on behalf of humans, summoning rain in times of drought and famine and restoring vegetation. By creating dozens of after school programs for refugee children, Dry Creek works to nourish communities that are often the most starved of basic necessities.</image:caption>
